Pan-American Swimming Champion for the 800 and 1500mts, Ricardo Monasterios leads the group of swimmers who will face the Open Waters Qualifying Championship for the 16th Andean Sports Games 2005 that will take place from Friday to Sunday September 25 in Lido Beach of Lecherias, Puerto La Cruz, Anzotegui State.
The outstanding swimmer will confront the 5 and 10 kilometer swim, according to information provided by Carmen Caraballo, national director of this activity and member of the Venezuelan Aquatic Sports Federation, FEVEDA. Ms Caraballo also said that there will participate 530 swimmers in the event; coming from different states of Venezuela: Bolívar, Anzoátegui, Monagas, Sucre, Lara, Zulia, Guárico, Portuguesa, Cojedes, Táchira, Mérida, Trujillo, Distrito Capital, Miranda, Aragua, Carabobo y Apure, among others. Among this wide number of swimmer that will go to that event on the weekend there is the notable presence of Janel Pinto –Youth Pan-American Champion-, south American medal winners Oriana Galindo and Rolando Salas, and also Aldo Roballo, winner of the Orinoco Cross Swimming.
